2014 Festive Season is here!

Festive seasonThe Festive Spirit is alive and well at THS!  From musical presentations, skits, and the auction to a Christmas birthday celebration, spirit days and the winter semi-formal, our school community has embraced all of the activities that have been planned.  A lot of money has been raised for charity to support those who need it at this time of year.  Please enjoy all of the pictures in our gallery.

Pictured here are ceramic bowls that were carefully crafted by our Arts students as a fund raiser for the food bank.

Tigers Visit Grade 8 Students

roadshowTHS students and staff visited elementary schools this week to talk about life inside and outside the classroom.  Grade 8’s asked a lot of questions and are excited  about transitioning to THS in September!  Pictured here with Tiger are Erika Kearney, Jess McCombe, Leslie Fell and Catherine Ricard.

Christmas Auction Raises $7000 for Charity

AuctionIn an epic display of generosity, THS staff, students and guests recently raised $7000 to support the Kinsmen Toy Drive and Salvation Army Christmas Food Drive.  The Toy Drive provides toys to 500 local children each year and our auction is the biggest fundraiser for their initiative.  Additionally, several hundred local families have received Christmas food baskets because of the work we do every December.  THS is proud of our fundraising efforts over the past 18 years including $52,000 in the last 6 years alone.

Mr. Tsarouhas and his student team of Kelsey Minnie, Ben Fellows, Cam Brown, Faith Hickey, Brianna Brake, Abby Refausse and Matt Tedford have worked tirelessly over the past few weeks to pull together the Auction and Raffle.  We have fantastic people in our school!!  Congratulations everyone on a wonderful, festive event.

Goin' Google

GoogleThe Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board has recently partnered with Google to use the Google Apps for Education (GAFE) platform.  Used worldwide by thousands of school and universities, GAFE provides productivity and collaboration tools for students and teachers in a safe and structured manner via the internet.  The suite of tools includes Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Sites and Classroom.

Hosted by Google and managed by HPEDSB, GAFE makes it possible for students to work on assignments and projects within a secure 'closed system' digital environment via the web.  File sharing and email correspondence can occur safely within this system.  Online storage space provided for each user eliminates the need to carry flash drives and save repeatedly.  Students are also able to submit work electronically to classroom teachers 'anytime, anywhere'.  Because GAFE is 'in the cloud', staff and students now have access to school documents on ANY computer or mobile device with internet access regardless of where they are.

Arts Night December 4th

Music & drama students from Trenton High School will be performing an instrumental band concert and stage production for the public on Thursday, December 4th at 7:00pm in the auditorium.  Tickets will be available at the door for $5.00

The show will include popular Classic Rock songs like Smoke On the Water, Born To Be Wild and Crazy Train as well as Big Band/Swing arrangements of Christmas favourites.  The second portion of the night will feature an original play called Eggnog Anonymous, in which your favourite Christmas characters deal with their problems by turning to eggnog, then come together to tell their stories in a funny sketch about some serious issues.
