February 14, 2023--Annie Wu and her friends Haleigh MacPherson and Kidan Singer co-founded the Socks For Society fundraiser to raise money to buy warm, high quality socks and winter essentials for local people who are in need. Along with friends Lizzy MacSween and Shaelynn Boutilier, Socks For Society raised over $1,200 by collecting money through neighbours, family, Bayside Secondary School classmates, teachers and local businesses, Friends Variety and No Frills Belleville.
The group then partnered with Gleaners Food Bank and the Belleville Salvation Army to get the warm socks distributed to those in need during the cold winter months.
Listen to Annie Wu talk about Socks for Society on Ontario Morning from CBC Radio with Ramraajh Sharvendiran.
Socks for Society was inspired by Annie’s volunteer work over the summer at our local food bank. She realized there are so many needs that exist in our local community. She thought that fundraising for socks could be a fun and cost efficient way to help those around her.
Everyone deserves a pair of high quality socks to wear during our cold winter months!
