September 15, 2023—On Thursday, September 14, Bayside Secondary School (BSS) students, Ethan and Noah Morgan, presented BSS with $1,100 raised through their business Subzero Sweets.
From L-R: Kent Allin, Teacher and BSS Red Devils Coach; Mike McKeown, Vice-principal; Noah Morgan; Ruth Ellen Cummings, Principal; Ethan Morgan; and Ken Dostaler, Superintendent of Education.
Subzero Sweets was founded by Ethan and Noah. Inspired by their love for freeze-dried candy, these 15-year-old twin brothers decided to start their own business. After conducting research and sampling various freeze-dried products, they launched their brand of freeze dried sweets in May 2023.
Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board selected the students to receive a Student Entrepreneur Grant from the Ministry of Education. With a grant of $3,000, they purchased a freeze drying machine and have been working out of the basement of their home in Stirling and experimenting with different candy flavours.
Their business has taken off! The young entrepreneurs entered into a partnership with BSS to sell their freeze dried candy at special events to raise money for Bayside’s extra-curricular athletics program.
Subzero Sweets are a crowd favourite during special events at BSS. As well, the products are available at a few local stores.
