Filmmaking - Interdisciplinary Studies ~ Grade 11 ~ Open

This course combines the expectations for Interdisciplinary Studies, Grade 11, Open with selected expectations from Drama - Film/Video, Grade 11, Open; Media Arts, Grade 11, Open; and Communications Technology: TV, Video and Movie Production, Grade 11, Open.

This course provides students with an in-depth look at the filmmaking process and its associated trades. Students will specialize in key areas such as cinematography, production management, post-production editing, or set design, gaining technical expertise while leading junior team members in collaborative projects. Students will learn about the structure of the filmmaking industry, including the roles of producers, directors, editors, and technicians, while developing leadership skills and exploring career opportunities in film and media production.

This course will help students combine the skills required for and knowledge of different subjects and disciplines to solve problems, make decisions, create personal meaning, and present findings beyond the scope of a single subject or discipline. Through individual and collaborative inquiry and research, students will analyze the connections among diverse subjects and disciplines; develop information literacy skills in analyzing, selecting, evaluating, and communicating information; and become aware of a variety of resources and viewpoints on contemporary issues. They will also examine their own learning styles, relate their inquiries and research to real-life situations, and investigate career opportunities in new disciplines.

This course combines the expectations for Interdisciplinary Studies, Grade 12, University Preparation with selected expectations from Drama - Film/Video, Grade 12, University/College Preparation; Media Arts, Grade 12, University/College Preparation; and Communications Technology: TV, Video and Movie Production, Grade 12, University/College Preparation.

This course prepares students for leadership roles in the filmmaking industry by immersing them in all aspects of film production. Students will lead in conceptual development, direction, and production coordination while refining technical skills in editing, sound design, or advanced cinematography. Using professional practices and real-world methods, they will produce innovative films and analyze industry trends and exemplary works. Students will also investigate career pathways in film, postsecondary opportunities, and the skills required to succeed in media and interdisciplinary fields.

Prerequisite: Any university or university/college preparation course.
